IN MEMORIAM: JERE N. MCCULLOCH

AUGUST 2013

It is with great sadness that the law firm of Rochelle, McCulloch & Aulds, PLLC, announces the sudden loss of our friend and founding partner, Jere N. McCulloch.  Jere leaves behind a daughter, Laura (Paul) Bass; parents, Forrest “Nabe” and Alice Jones McCulloch; two (2) grandchildren, Brayden and Elizabeth Bass; and two (2) brothers, Dale (Mary) McCulloch and Guy (Ann) McCulloch.

Jere is also survived by 12 attorneys and a staff of 20 in his RMA family.  Jere has been the leader and visionary of our firm since its inception.  Fortunately, as our leader, Jere had the vision and fortitude to plan for the generational transfer of the leadership of the firm.  While it is with great sadness that we carry on without our long-time leader, the firm stands strong with the knowledge and experience of our 12 attorneys and long-time staff members.

Jere recently stated, “The joy of practicing law is helping people solve problems, resolve disputes and make deals.  Working with people to achieve their goals is truly worthwhile.”  The attorneys of RMA will work diligently to carry on the tradition of exceptional legal representation that Jere McCulloch instilled in each and every one of us in the firm.

We thank each of you who have reached out to us during this most difficult time.  The kindness and consideration that has been shown to us thus far will long be remembered.

Biography
Jere McCulloch was a founding member and the Managing member of Rochelle, McCulloch & Aulds, PLLC.

A native of Wilson County, Jere received his undergraduate degree from Tennessee Technological University in 1969 and his J.D. from the University of Tennessee in 1972.

Jere was admitted to the Bar of the State of Tennessee in 1973 and practiced law in Lebanon since that time.

He was the founding partner of the firm of McCulloch & Aulds in 1982 and a founding member of its successor, Rochelle, McCulloch & Aulds, PLLC. He served as the managing member of the firm since its inception.

Professionally, Jere was a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, the Lebanon/ Wilson County Bar Association, where he had twice been President, and a Founding Member of Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel. Jere was also a Fellow of Tennessee Bar Foundation. He also served on civic boards such as a former Board Member and President of the Lebanon Wilson County Chamber of Commerce, former Board Member of Mt. Juliet West Wilson Chamber of Commerce and Board member of Prospect, Inc., an institution providing employment opportunities for handicapped persons.

In addition to the practice of law, Jere was the Chairman of the Board and former Chief Executive Officer of Mountain States Contractors, LLC, a heavy highway, bridge and paving construction company with state wide operations in Tennessee.

Beginning with a general practice of law in 1973, Jere practiced in many areas over the length of his practice. At RMA, the bulk of his practice involved land use and zoning matters, condemnation and eminent domain, construction related corporate and litigation matters and general business matters, as well as representing utility providers. Jere also tried a number of condemnation cases including a jury verdict of $690,000 and settled a condemnation case for more than $1,000,000. He was fortunate to represent the Nashville Superspeedway in the zoning and governmental approvals necessary for the establishment of the Nashville Superspeedway.

Jere was recognized by the publication “Best Lawyers in America” in the area of eminent domain and condemnation and was honored with an AV rating by Martindale Hubbell.
